Together with KN Energies, we wanted to mark a historic milestone - the transfer of the “Independence” FSRU vessel into Lithuania’s ownership. A decade earlier, this ship had become a symbol of the country’s energy independence. The task was to create something that not only decorated the vessel, but also embodied Lithuania’s broader story of freedom.

Solution

We designed a unique vėtrungė (weathervane) in collaboration with craftsman Vaidotas Bliūdžius, historian Norbertas Černiauskas, and mural artist Artur Širin. The design merged traditional Curonian symbolism with key moments from Lithuania’s struggle for independence: the 1918 Act of Independence, the post-war resistance, the Sąjūdis movement, the tragic events of January 1991, EU and NATO membership in 2004, and the arrival of “Independence” in Klaipėda in 2014.

Now mounted on the vessel itself, the Vėtrungė reminds us that true freedom - political, energy-related, and spiritual - comes through resilience and determination. It is a lasting symbol of Lithuania’s values and ambition to remain independent and strong.
